My relatives ask me this question all of the time: "What's going on with your peers?" Or: "Anything happening at school that I should know about?" And better yet: "What do you and friends talk about?" And the best of all: "What are kids your age surrounded by?"
Whenever I'm asked this question face to face, I usually quickly change the subject in a rush because I'm just not comfortable talking about it with my family. What goes through my mind whenever I think of this is: It's my life. What gives them the right to know? Well, I'm here to provide an answer to the last question I mentioned.
I'll make a simple list to tell what we teenagers are surrounded by and what goes through our heads.
1. Profane language
2. Dirty Jokes
3. Lust
Those three things are basically what inhabit the minds of my peers. Now, when I say lust, I mean looking at girls the wrong way.
Whenever I'm surrounded by my peers and they're taking part in these three things, I sometimes think: Should Christian people really be acting this way? Now I admit, not all of my peers are Christians, but the three things are still wrong to do. Now, I've never been a fan of profane language or looking at girls the wrong way, but I have shared in those things called "Dirty Jokes."
Some of you are probably thinking: Ok, what does this have to do with anything? You're just going on and on about virtually nothing.
Well, I'm trying to come to a point. I have one question for you: Should Christian people, including teenagers and adults, really be acting this way?
In short, that is what teenage lives, in my experience from the people I've seen and the experience of being a teenager myself, are caught up in. Those three things. If you're a parent watching this, I don't know if your child cusses, tells dirty jokes, or looks at girls the wrong way, but I would recommend that you talk to your child about it, because these things are happening in places besides in my town.
